One man is dead after officers believe he drowned over the weekend.

On May 12, shortly before 8 p.m., Whitemouth RCMP received a report from Meditation Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park about a drowning. After going by an injured female on shore, a passerby learned her husband was missing.

Officers quickly went to the scene. Based on the investigation, they concluded that the injured 58-year-old female was canoeing with her husband, a 61-year-old male. Their canoe capsized in rough conditions caused by high winds.

While the female was able to swim safely to shore, officers found the man deceased in the water.

The female remains in hospital. An autopsy will be conducted on the male.

Both individuals were wearing lifejackets when the canoe tipped.
