A Winnipeg mom notified police the day after Halloween, after discovering prescription drugs in her children's candy.

Winnipeg Police Service says they were contacted by the mother on Wednesday morning. The North Kildonan mom said she discovered a small zipped bag containing pills while checking her kids' Halloween candy.

The mother said that her children had been out trick-or-treating in the area of Knowles Avenue, Bonner Avenue, and Rothesay Street.

The pills turned out to be Xanax, a powerful drug in the benzodiazepine family used to treat used to treat anxiety disorders, panic disorders, and anxiety caused by depression.

It is not believed that the child consumed the drugs.

Winnipeg Police Service says it's a good reminder to always go through your kids' candy before allowing them to consume any.
