The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) received nearly 2,800 phone calls from Friday, August 18 to Sunday, August 20.

The overwhelming number of calls resulted in officers being dispatched to over 1,150 of those calls on the weekend.

The WPS says that, "all calls for service are triaged and assigned a dispatch priority, with threats to an individual’s immediate safety receiving the highest priority. As a result, a caller with a lower priority call can expect potentially lengthy delays in service during peak times."

The calls police responded to over the weekend included the following:

  • 17 Assaults with a Weapon
  • 59 Assaults
  • 167 Domestics
  • 98 Disturbances
  • 22 Disputes
  • 16 Damages
  • 21 Fights
  • 10 Gun (report of gun seen)
  • 43 Medic calls
  • 36 Missing Person calls
  • 33 Motor Vehicle Collisions
  • 19 Robberies
  • 7 Commercial Robberies
  • 7 Sexual Assaults
  • 8 Reports of Gunshots
  • 16 Stabbings
  • 53 Threat of Suicide
  • 93 Suspicious Circumstances
  • 21 Thefts
  • 28 Threats
  • 23 Arrest warrants
  • 17 Reports of a Weapon
  • 161 Calls to check on the Wellbeing of an Individual

WPS is asking for patience and understanding during especially busy times such as this past weekend. They said in a release, "Every call is important, but we ask and trust the public will be patient during particularly busy periods."
