The Forks is Winnipeg's most beloved meeting place. Now, starting today, you can even meet for a nice skate.

The ultimate public skate has opened up at The Forks with the Canopy Rink. With the cooler temperatures we've seen over the last week, the skating rink just outside the Marketplace has opened, with more to open throughout the next couple of weeks.

"We love seeing people take their first skate of the season under The Forks canopy skating rink," said Paul Jordan, CEO of The Forks in a statement. "Winter is always fun at The Forks and with our first rink now open and Arctic Glacier Park just around the corner, we continue to be a fantastic winter destination."

Skate rentals are also available, starting at just $3 for kids. If your own skates are dull, they can be sharpened for just $5.

The rink should remain open until March, depending on the weather. The rivers are not open yet as it is still not safe to venture on to any open body of water.
