A Winnipeg mom is hoping and praying an important item stolen from her car will be returned.

Lyra Barchet says that when her car was broken into in the Wolseley area sometime overnight on Wednesday, the thieves made off with a red bag.

Inside that bag was a prosthetic arm that belongs to her young son. Davis is two and a half, and Lyra says while he's somewhat indifferent to not having the prosthetic, it's important he wears it.

"The idea is that kids at this age are growing so rapidly and developing their motor pathways that you want to try and integrate it."

The stolen arm also has a silicone insert inside it which is important for him to be able to use another prosthetic that he's getting fitted for.

Barchet says the arm is expensive and Manitoba Health only pays for new prosthetics every two years.

To make matters worse, Barchet is having to self isolate, so isn't able to search for it. She's asking Winnipeggers to help by looking in garbage cans and around their property.

She says the arm might be in the red bag still, with the War Amps logo on it. The arm itself is black/dark navy blue with a dino sticker on it. She says Friday is garbage day in the area, and she's worried it may be lost forever.
