Local organization helps immigrants navigate Canadian society
Over 100 people gathered at the Greendell Community Center, 75 Woodlawn Avenue, on Saturday afternoon for the African Immigrants' Settlement In Canada (AISIC) Seminar. AISIC is a charitable organization that helps African immigrants navigate a new life in Canada through different avenues. "We are an organization committed to facilitating the successful settlement of new African immigrants," said Bisola, a Volunteer with AISIC. Their vision is to "Empower African immigrants to thrive in Canada through the provision of holistic settlement approaches that address basic needs, foster community integration, and ensure a supportive environment for personal and professional growth," as stated on their website. There were several guest speakers, including Mike Moyes, Manitoba's Minister of Environment and Climate Change, in attendance. There was an interactive activity for attendees to participate in and refreshments to enjoy at the end of the event. "All of our services are free, and once you get settled, we don't just leave you alone," continued Bisola. Those services include employment training, legal and immigration assistance, youth and family programs, and free driving lessons. Saturday afternoon was about providing support and encouragement to those who need it most.
