Strong winds and blowing snow were wreaking havoc on roads both in Winnipeg, and throughout the province.

Update: As of 8 a.m. all highways have been reopened. 

Update: As of 5 a.m. the only closed road is Highway 75, from the Perimeter to the USA border. All other highways have reopened.

Visibility was extremely reduced Wednesday evening. Greg Penner sent us this video of his drive.

Northerly winds with gusts of 70 km/h are impacting southern Manitoba this evening creating reduced visibilities in blowing snow.

As a result a number of highways have been shut down in southern Manitoba including:

Highway 75, from St. Norbert to Emerson, MB , is now closed.

Highway 14, from highway 75 to highway 3, is now closed.

Highway 32, from highway 14 to US border, is now closed.

Highway 30, from highway 14 to US border, is now closed.

Highway 201, from highway 30 to highway 32, is now closed.

Highway 23, from highway 75 to highway 244, is now closed.

Highway 3, from highway 14 to Sperling, MB, is now closed.

Highway 13, from highway 3 to highway 2, is now closed.

Highway 2, from highway 13 to Starbuck, MB, is now closed.

More road closures are expected as the night goes on.

Here in Winnipeg a number of collisions have been reported across the city due to icy road conditions.

The blowing snow will subside late this evening as winds gradually diminish and the snow tapers off.
