RCMP Manitoba says a 39-year-old teacher is facing charges after allegations of sexual offences against a student have come forward after more than a decade.

Between January and December of 2010, RCMP Manitoba says a teacher who was employed by Turtle Mountain School Division, sexually assaulted a teenaged female student.

Now, the suspect, Troy Innes, is employed with the Brandon School Division and is being charged for the previous incidents.

"There's no time limit to report a sexual assault to police," RCMP Manitoba says in a statement. "Even if you were assaulted years ago, you can still report it to police. Many survivors do not report right away, and choose to do so later in their lives. Reporting a sexual assault can help you seek justice and start the healing process."

He is facing two Sexual Assault charges and Luring and Sexual Exploitation of a Young Person by a Person in a Position of Trust or Authority.

Innes was released with a number of conditions, including to appear in court on March 8 in Killarney.

RCMP says those who experienced sexual assault can report it to police at any time, or report it with third parties.

"In this process, the survivor completes a form with the support of a Sexual Assault Crisis Program worker, and this information is sent to police without the survivor's identifying information.

RCMP say to contact Klinic's 24/7 Sexual Assault Crisis Line at 204-786-8631 or toll-free at 1-888-292-7565 for third-party reporting.
