A River Heights area church wants to welcome newcomers to Canada by helping them learn Canadian ways.

St. Aiden's Anglican Church is hosting a series of 'Canada Nights' and inviting newcomers to experience Canada.

"It's an evening of fun, English discussion, learning, and relationship building," said Chris Barnes. Barnes is the Mission Coordinator at St. Aiden's.

There will be a presentation about Canada, games, and Canadian snacks.

"Hopefully, [we'll] offer an environment of hospitality and love," Barnes said.

Candace Maxymowich is the Office Administrator at the church and said it's important to help newcomers as they adjust to their new homeland.

"There are gaps where the church can play an important role" Maxymowich said. "It's about providing newcomers with deep meaningful relationships rather than just providing services."

Newcomers will get to try maple doughnuts and pancakes with maple syrup on different nights.

Canada Nights take place at 274 Campbell Street on Tuesday, July 18, July 25 and August 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. If you know a newcomer who could use a church community or a bit more knowledge on Canada, Barnes invites you to invite them.
