After a big win for the Bombers, and a tough loss for the Roughriders, Lorne Korol shares his prayers for both teams.

A 20-13 win for the Bombers is a welcomed sight as the team has not seen the Grey Cup since 2011.

Saskatchewan Roughrider fans are maybe still thinking about the final - ultimately disappointing - throw from quarterback Cody Fajardo.

As the Bombers celebrated their victory over a prairie rival, their chaplain Lorne Korol went to Fajardo to extend his encouragement.

"It was a tough, tough loss for him," says Korol. "I was just trying to encourage Cody."

Fajardo, who is the chapel leader for the Riders, is outspoken about his faith and uses his platform with the team to share it frequently.

Korol says, "He has done a great job of shining his light for the Lord all year long. I just said to him, 'Cody, keep on doing what you're doing. Good things are going to happen for you.' He was very appreciative."

Busy week ahead for the blue and gold

Korol and the Bombers fly out to Calgary as they practice and prepare for the week's events which end with the Grey Cup on Sunday.

"It all happens fast," says Korol. One of his own events to prepare for, besides the big game, is the Athletes in Action Breakfast on Saturday morning.

"We try to get as many players from both teams to come to that. So we hope and pray that we can get a turnout there," says Korol.

"It's a phenomenal outreach event. We have anywhere from 600 to 800 people at that breakfast."

Pinball Clemons, general manager for the Toronto Argonauts, will be the emcee at the breakfast along with a panel made up of athletes from the league who are not participating in the weekend's game.

"It's our one time that we can really showcase our ministry and talk about the things that we have done in the week," says Korol.

Athletes in Action will be doing outreach all week in Calgary in prisons, schools, and detention centres with those some athletes from Saturday's panel.

Keeping the team focused

Korol says the Bombers' coach, Mike O'Shea, keeps reminding the team to stay focused as a busy week like this one can distract the athletes from their goal.

Korol is preparing for his two bible studies and pre-game chapel with the players and coaches this week but says the subject matter will be consistent with the message they have been hearing all season.

"Our team - and coach Mike O'Shea - really focuses on: 'Every game is the same,' like in the sense that we are just trying to win the next game," says Korol.

"We are just trying to keep everything as consistent as possible. We will have a game-day chapel on Saturday and it will be much the same as I normally do: focusing on the theme of, 'In due time,' referencing the book of Peter. I just keep saying, 'In due time - it's our time and we are due.'"

Korol asks for Bomber fans and the Christian community to pray for, "Athletes in Action in general," as they do outreach events.

Also, "Pray for a hedge of protection, safe travel, and for us to stay focused on our Lord."
