The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating a salmonella outbreak and says that Compliments brand chicken strips are the cause.

Sofina Foods Inc. has recalled 907g packages of the product as a result. The outer package codes on the affected products are "2019 NO 24" and the UPC code is "0 57742 33687 0."

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the product was sold up until May 1, 2019, but believes consumers may still have the product in their freezers.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, call your doctor.

Check to see if you have recalled products in your home. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

The CFIA warns that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The PHAC is continuing its investigation and says that more recalls may come as a result.
