It was a close call for a motorcyclist last week, and Manitoba RCMP says it could have been much worse.

A video released by the RCMP shows dashcam footage from an intersection on the west Perimeter Highway and Highway 3.

An allegedly distracted semi driver drove through a red light. Thankfully for the motorcyclist, they noticed the semi at the last second and averted disaster.

"It could have gone tragic really quickly," said Tara Seel, media relations with the Manitoba RCMP.

RCMP say that several witnesses reported the semi driver was on his cell phone.

They charged him with distracted driving and for running the red light. His fines totalled $406.

Seel says the motorcyclist escaped with just minor injuries and was able to walk away from the collision.
