Winnipeg firefighters were fighting water instead of fire on Monday evening.

Crews responded to a call of burst water pipes that were causing flooding in several areas of St. Amant on Monday evening.

A pipe burst in one of the walls at St. Amant, at 440 River Road, flooding a number of areas in the building.

"There was quite a lot of water in our school administrative area, on the floor and leaking throughout the area. It also leaked down the stairs into the physiotherapy rooms below," said Jennifer Rodrigue, Senior Manager of Corporate Communications at St. Amant.

Rodrigue says they are in the process of contacting the insurance company to figure out whether or not they've done a good enough clean up job, or if they will be a need for significant repairs.

"If there is a need for repairs, then we will have to find a space for physio to happen, which happens daily at St. Amant. Finding that space to relocated will be a bit of a challenge. And then we will have to find space for the admin staff from St. Amant School to work while any repairs are being done. Luckily it will not affect our operations too significantly."

The fire crew that attended to the call stayed on scene to help the St. Amant staff help clean up the mess.

"Unless things were being pointed out to you, you really wouldn't notice that there was a huge flood," said Rodrigue.
