A high-profile Winnipeg Blue Bombers player will not be in Friday's game after allegedly driving while impaired.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers say in a statement that Kenny Lawler approached them Monday morning, telling the team he was arrested for driving while impaired earlier that morning.

"We take this incident very seriously and have spoken at length with Kenny throughout the day," the team says in the statement. "Keny recognized the seriousness of the situation and that this type of behaviour is unacceptable and inexcusable."

They say Lawler fully cooperated with police and will seek substance abuse help.

Lawler is recently being recognized as one of the top receivers in the Canadian Football League at the moment. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are facing the Edmonton Elks at home on Friday.
