A man is in custody after threatening two people and causing property damage to a Winnipeg bar.

Yesterday afternoon the man brought a machete into a drinking establishment on Maryland Street.

The bar's flat-screen tv, a table, and a chair were damaged after the 26-year-old threatened two patrons. Police were called to the scene, but the man fled before they arrived.

The man was then found by police causing a disturbance at a residence on Victor Street. Police say in a statement that the man was "belligerent, extremely agitated and uncooperative" when authorities arrived to detain him.

The 29-year-old has been charged with Assault With a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose.
