YFC Winnipeg is in the business of forming young people by growing their faith and giving them space for self-expression.

Teri-Lyn Friesen, director of the Masterworks musical theatre program, says that their work is all about empowering kids to believe in themselves.

"Our students care for each other, are passionate about the arts and are learning to express and explore their faith through their creativity."

Normally, the program runs alongside the university school year, from September until April, with a final production capping off the season. The students learn all aspects of the production, including building props, costumes, and creating stage backgrounds.

"We're an all hands on deck program," says Friesen. "For example, we did a Bake-Off fundraiser in February to raise funds for our musical that involved all the kids from the ages of 7 up to the older teens, and even some parents! We're a community, that's for sure!"
