2019 marked the fourth consecutive year of record numbers for antisemitic incidents in Canada, according to newly released audit.

On average, more than six antisemitic incidents a day happened in Canada in 2019.

"They are alarming," Mostyn says. "These figures, and the brazenness of the incidents we are seeing, would have been unthinkable just a few short years ago. Instead, they have become a loathsome reality in this country."

It is the fourth year in a row where a record number of antisemitic incidents have occurred and the second consecutive year to exceed the 2,000 plateau for incidents, B'nai Brith Canada reports.

The audit lists a number of incidents that occurred last year. Of these incidents, several instances included acts of violence that occurred during the day in front of eyewitnesses.

One incident occurred in Winnipeg, with two male youths gave a Nazi salute in view of students outside a Jewish school.

"It is not only Jewish people who must be appalled by this pattern. It’s any law-abiding, decent human being," says Mostyn.
