Twenty workers from Saskatoon Light and Power and Saskatoon's parks division will travel to Winnipeg today to help with the cleanup from the snowstorm that hit southern Manitoba last week.

Saskatoon's City Manager, Jeff Jorgenson, says when the call went out asking for anyone interested to go to Winnipeg, there were more volunteers than spots available.

The storm badly damaged Winnipeg's urban forest. The City of Winnipeg says right now estimates are that over 30,000 city-owned trees were damaged. Thousands of others on private property were also damaged.

Saskatoon says the City of Winnipeg will cover all costs. Winnipeg's Mayor Brian Bowman has declared a local state of emergency.

Staff from SaskPower are also in the Portage la Prairie area helping with power restoration efforts there.
