A large cloud of smoke was seen by neighbours overtop of a St. Matthews home.

On Thursday night, a two-and-a-half-storey home in the 300 block of Beverley Street caught fire. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) says that when they arrived at 11:25 p.m. the fire was already well-involved.

Crews learned that the home's only occupant had already evacuated and began to battle the fire.

The heavy flames and smoke were coming out of the house, requiring firefighters to fight the fire defensively. A neighbouring home was evacuated.

Once the fire was "knocked down" crews switched tactics, transitioning to an interior attack.

At 12:03 a.m. the fire was extinguished.

WFPS says no injuries were reported from the fire and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
