Residents of many cities across the province will need to find alternative rides home during the holiday season.

Operation Red Nose, a Canadian program that has been providing rides during the holiday season since 1984, says that five services across the province will not be in operation this holiday season.

"For 25 years running, Operation Red Nose has helped to get Manitobans – and their vehicles – home safely for the holidays," the service says in a media release.

Winnipeg, Brandon, Portage, Flin Flon, and Gimli's rides are cancelled. The service says they have cancelled the season in those areas due to COVID-19.

Despite the cancellations, Operation Red Nose is asking people to stay safe.

"Operation Red Nose reminds people to continue planning for a safe ride home and not to drive while impaired."

Operation Red Nose also typically operates in La Broquerie-Steinbach, Selkirk, Shilo, St. Malo, The Pas, and Thompson. All of these centres are deciding if they will continue this year.
