Authorities say four adults and four children are in the hospital after a deadly Thursday fire.

Just before 6 a.m., Winnipeg Fire Paramedic crews were called to a single-story house fire in the 300 block of Simcoe Street. When they got there, crews saw heavy smoke seeping out of the home. Some of the home's nine occupants had self-evacuated when crews arrived.

At the time, a five-year-old was transported by ambulance to the hospital in critical condition. On Friday afternoon, officers announced he died of his injuries.

The four children, whose ages range from younger than one year to early teens, were transported in stable condition and remain their Friday. The four adults were in unstable condition and have since upgraded to a stable condition.

Authorities say they do not believe the fire is suspicious.
