One of Manitoba's top doctors says getting vaccinated and following the fundamentals will go a long way in preventing Manitoba from tightening restrictions once again.

Summer is in full swing in Manitoba with some restriction loosenings Saturday. Dr. Jazz Atwal, Manitoba's Deputy Chief Public Health Officer, says restrictions may be loosening, but not the fundamentals.

"Yes, you're able to do more, (but) doesn't mean you maximize that on a daily basis. Enjoy more, enjoy those things you haven't been able to do that you wanted to do for months, but still limit it and limit some of those interactions," Atwal says in a Friday afternoon press conference.

He says this will allow the province to continue making reopenings.

"I know it's going to be hard. We want to interact with people and we're going to be allowed to interact a little bit more, but continue to have that voice in your head to limit those interactions and limit the number of things that you're doing."

Public Health says vaccinations have played a major role in decreasing case numbers.

Premier Bian Pallister said Wednesday more openings for fully-vaccinated Manitobans will be coming next week.
