An RCMP officer in southern Manitoba is facing several charges under the Highway Traffic act following an investigation by the province's police watchdog.

The Independent Investigation Unit says it has wrapped up its investigation into allegations that the on-duty officer was driving recklessly and at an excessive speed last January 8. The incident took place on Highway 83 in Westman.

As a result of the investigation, the officer has been issued a summons to appear in Virden Provincial Court next month for speeding, failing to stop at a stop sign and failing to signal lane changes.
