Manitoba is on track to achieve its third and final reopening vaccination goal, with the Premier hoping to help get the province there with a "Walk-In Vax-A-Thon."

Four weeks before its target, Manitoba achieved giving more than 75 per cent of its eligible population their first COVID-19 vaccine, and more than 50 per cent their second. Per Capita, Manitoba is vaccinating more people than any other province with 129,111 per 100,000 receiving a vaccine.

This means Manitoba will be loosening its restrictions, including increasing business capacity, soon. Premier BrianPallister says to expect news on the changes next week.

Manitoba is 33,000 first-dose and 100,000 second-dose appointments away, on top of currently booked appointments, from reaching its Labour Day goal of 80 per cent of Manitobans receiving their first COVID-19 vaccine, and 75 per cent their second.

To bring Manitoba closer to its third and final 4-3-2-One Great Summer goal, Pallister says a Walk-In Vax-A-Thon is limiting July 14 to walk-ins, including the RBC supersite, for first and second doses. In an afternoon press conference, Johanu Botha, Operations Lead of the COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force says they have been planning for this day and did not book supersite appointments but kept staffing levels the same.

The Premier says this day's dedication to walk-ins is the defining feature of the day, pointing to Steinbach's supersite as an example of a site operating mostly as a walk-in.

The province says more than 20,000 vaccines will be available. This includes 8,000 Pfizer vaccines for young people aged 12 to 17.
