Vita Catholic Church bells are ringing after 13 years of silence

The church bells at San Isidore Catholic Church in Vita were heard ringing once again, this past Saturday afternoon and the pews were filled with parishioners, because of a member of the Filipino community in Steinbach.

Edwin Sonsona is the Chapter Head of Missionary Families of Christ, in Steinbach, which is a Catholic organization, based out of the Christ our Saviour Church on Loewen Blvd.  He arrived in Canada from the Philippines in 2006 and has been supporting Filippino families ever since.

2023 Champion Child, Pacey Wall gives back

Pacey Wall has had many tough moments in his young 10-year-old life, but the Winkler native has not let that stop his push to help other kids who need it being named as Manitoba's Champion Child for 2023 by the Winnipeg-based hospital. 

After having more than 35 surgeries to treat intestinal failure, Wall has raised $34,000 for HSC Children's Hospital, more than triple his parent's goal of $10,000. Despite his circumstances, Wall never let that get him down, cracking jokes and making those around him laugh.

The Christian organization Hope and Healing International is welcoming a new Executive Director who has 25 years of experience helping children in poverty get the medical care they need.

"I ran hospitals and have been doing this work, especially in Africa, helping children for 25 years," says Kyalo Mwalimu, who recently stepped into the new role of Executive Director at Hope and Healing International. "We'd do surgery, spiritual ministry and training, and Hope and Healing was one of our partners. When this position came up, my wife and family just began to pray."
